1 Disk with Read errors

Featured Replies

I have one disk  that just came up with read errors.  Is the disk in need of replacement or is there anything I can do?  Diagnostics attached

It's a disk problem, you can run an extended SMART test and if it passes maybe give it a second chance, if it fails replace now.

Ok, extended self test started.  I'll see what happens with it.  Thanks

Hmm, extended self test completed without errors.  So I guess I'll keep it around for a little bit and monitor it to be sure it doesnt happen again.

Not very surprising since there aren't any pending sectors, keep monitoring for more read errors and this attribute especially, this ideally should be zero, but more importantly, if it keeps increasing the disk will likely have more issues soon:

ID# ATTRIBUTE_NAME FLAGS VALUE WORST THRESH FAIL RAW_VALUE
  1 Raw_Read_Error_Rate POSR-K 200 200 051 - 3

I will keep an eye on this one.  one lucky thing the drive is still under warranty until 2020, so I have some time to monitor and still possibly get it RMA'd if necessary.

thanks for the advice.
