System hang / unclean shutdown / docker

Featured Replies

UR 6.5.3

Just had to perform an unclean shutdown so now I am waiting on the parity check. I would like some advice on what I could have done differently...

1. Copying media over to server, Plex was indexing it at the same time.

2. File transfer failed (network error - apparently, but everything else was working)

3. Cancelled request.

4. Tried again, but files did not want to copy.

5. Tried to log into WebGui, took ages and when it did couldn't see anything except header.

6. Tried to powerdown -r from server cmdline but command hung/did not work.

7. Remembering that sometimes Plex does hang and have to restart process, wanted to see if I could stop docker process - I only run one docker.

8. Couldn't do that, commands were accepted but were hanging.

9. Couldn't download diagnostics before hard reset.

10. Prayed for UR.

11. Sitting waiting for parity check

Seems that docker / plex may have chocked on something. I wasn't doing anything else with the server. What steps should I have taken to try and perform a clean reboot?

The powerdown is the step to take.

Beyond that, it takes investigation at the time its happening, and you'd have to kill the appropriate processes manually via htop

After that, you may have to

umount -f /var/lib/docker
umount -f /mnt/cache

Ok, thanks. At the time, everything seemed to stop working. I will look into htop.
