Spydawg
I Picked up a Dell H310 6Gbps SAS HBA with LSI 9211-8i P20 IT Mode to replace a cheap 2 port sata card for my unraid server. Question is Can I just pop out old card, plug in new card and plug in the drives that was in old card in to new one and boot up? Or do I need to do anything for array to load up right? Thanks Edited November 27, 2018 by Spydawg SOLVED Quote Link to comment
Squid
Should work out of the box, assuming that the card is in IT mode, and you have the appropriate forward breakout cabling. Edited November 25, 2018 by Squid 1 Quote Link to comment
Spydawg
Great, I'll attempt today. Thanks Quote Link to comment
Spydawg
Plugged in and no drives on the controller show up in array. The cables I picked up are J&D Internal Mini SAS 36 Pin SFF-8087 to 4 SATA 7 Pin Forward Breakout Cable https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B0736J45V2/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Quote Link to comment
Squid
If you go to the bios of the card do they show there?Sent via telekinesis Quote Link to comment
Spydawg
I plugged in a monitor to see whats going on, When its plugged in the server will not post at all, I tried all PCIe slots. I read a post here that taping up pins B5 & B6 fixes this issue. It did not fix it for me.. The green led blinks when powered up so its getting power. I tried this controller card in 4 other systems with taped B5 & B6 pins and without it taped in every PCIe slots they had same results, not one system would boot up, just a flashing cursor top left of screen. I'm thinking dead card? Quote Link to comment
Spydawg
Update.. Reading up and found disabling PCIe Option Rom in bios fixes this as well. I could not find this on my unRAID motherboard bios MSI - Z77A-GD55 (MS-7751) But I did on one of the other computers I tried earlier and found it on my Dell system, disabled it and it booted to windows and the controller card shows in device manager. So the card is working just not on my unRAID .. Anyone have any ideas for me? Quote Link to comment
JorgeB
If it's the HBA bios causing the problem you can delete it, as it isn't needed for Unraid, how to here: https://forums.unraid.net/topic/12114-lsi-controller-fw-updates-irit-modes/?do=findComment&comment=632252 Quote Link to comment

Spydawg
Ok I got this working now. The seller sent me the lastest bios and flasher and reflashed it in another system and now it'll boot in my unRAID server.. I'm guessing it just needed an update. Thanks for all the help!
