September 17, 201015 yr Hi everyone. I been reading the forums for a really long time and recently i decided build my first UnRaid Box. I been working in this for the past days and i have a really stupid question now (I have 0 experience putting hardware togheter). I did get the GIGABYTE GA-880GA-UD3H AM3 Motherboard and the NORCO RPC-450B 4U case. My question is. How should i connect the front panel cables from the case to the motherboard? I've been reading the Mobo manual and i have no clue. Does it matter the + and the - side? Here some pics of the Build and the several cables that i dont know how connect (included the USB from the front panel) The Build: The cables that i dont know how to plug / the Slot in the Mobo / manual: Can u guys tell that i am totally trying to emulate Alphazo Rig here ! Thx!!! Any help would be apreciated. Sry if i posted in the wrong sectionand Sry for my english, im a spanish speaker.
September 17, 201015 yr slarco ... each wire pair will have a colored wire (i.e. red, green, blue, etc.) and a black wire. Connect the colored wire to the + pin and the black wire to the - pin. Do one at a time, and before you know it you'll be all set up. Note that not all motherboards have pins for all of the front panel connections. Just connect up what you can and tuck the others away somewhere. They don't all need to be connected. As long as you hook up the power switch and the reset switch you should be good to go.
September 17, 201015 yr You will plug them in here ^ Here's the diagram: The only one that is absolutely required is the Power Switch cable (PW+ and PW-). All the others (Power Reset, NIC, HDD LED, etc) are optional. I would recommend hooking up the Power Switch, Reset Switch, Power LED, and Speaker and leaving the rest unplugged. The HDD LED is basically useless in a server since you will have more than one hard drive. Your motherboard may not have a NIC header, so you can leave it unplugged. The one that says DATA1, DATA2, VCC is most likely your front side USB port. Plug it in here: (or into any one of the other motherboard USB ports, it doesn't matter which one you use) You can also download a Spanish motherboard manual here. Hope that helps, feel free to ask more questions if you are still confused about anything.
September 17, 201015 yr Author Thank you guys both for your time. Ill try to connect everything this weekend and give it a try. Ill let you guys know if i have any other problem / doubt or if i make it work. Thanks
September 20, 201015 yr Author I plug everything in place and power on the server. Nothing explode so thats good. I set up the Bios to boot from the USB by i keep getting a "Boot Error". I tried USB-HDD / USB-zip...and all the other combinations in 1st boot / 2nd boot, etc The USB is a Preconfigured unRAID Server Plus, so i don't think that the problem is the USB. Seems like the Bios is not detecting the USB. Does anyone have any idea / suggestion? Thx
September 20, 201015 yr The flash will be under the hard drives .. not USB-anything. Press F12 at boot to get boot menu. Select "Hard Drive" option. Then select the flash from the list.

September 20, 201015 yr Author Ok, so itried what bubbaQ sugested in the post before. I tried with the preconfigured USB from limewired and when i get in the boot order menu under HDD the USB doesnt even show up under the menu. I tried again with another USB that i prepared with the HP Format tool & UnRAid Free license. Went under HDD / USB and now im runnnig the memtest. Does anyone know why the Preconfigured flash is not working? ant the other one it is? Should i use the HP format tool in the preconfigured USB? If yes, how can i save the files / license to the reformated USB? Thx!!

Once you plug the flash drive into your windows machine just drag and drop the config folder (and any others you think you might want) onto the desktop. Once you have that info copied over you can proceed to format the drive.

In case that i need to save some important data. thx If you have a monitor hooked up you can hit control-F1, control-F2, etc to get to more consoles to preclear up to 6 drives at once. If you are doing this over a telnet session then you are going to need to use something like screen (do a google search about it).

You were given the wrong instruction in the prior post. (They were close)

I am use to working on a windows machine all day and control+"Whatever" is the answer to most things. Plus... I use screen through a telnet session for 99% of what i do, that way i don't have to get up and walk over to the computer and get a monitor hooked up.
