passthough disc drive to windows 10 vm

hi there think this has been asked before. how would i pass though a disc drive so i can watch dvds ect? must be a simple way to do this any ideas? is it like passing though a hard drive?

    I only have an external USB disc writer. The passthrough is easy as any USB mouse keyboard device. USB hotplug addon does the job same as passing it through the VM settings.
