September 18, 201015 yr I'm going to build a new server because my old one has ran out of space. Since i want it to be a bit more futureproof i need a case and motherboard that supports around 20 drives. So at first i looked at the motherboard that i'm currently using (Asus p5q deluxe) these are the specs: 2 x PCI Express 2.0 x16 slots, support ATI CrossFireX™ technology at x8 link (PCIe x16_1 blue, PCIe x16_2 black*) 1 x PCI Express x16 slot at max. x4 link(black) 2 x PCI Express x1 slots 2 x PCI slots *PCI Express x16_2 slot (black at max. x8 link) Will this be ok for using it with 2 Supermicro AOC-SASLP-MV8 cards? And then there's the case: norco cases aren't available here in the netherlands, so i think the only choise can be an antec 1200. Pretty cheap case but i don't like the way the hdd's are mounted. So any suggestions on this are very welcome.
September 18, 201015 yr I'm also in NL and working on a server. At the end of the day I decided on a (16 drive) Lian Li based system (PC-A77FB + 4xEX-H34), but found Norco's here (ri-vier.nl).
September 18, 201015 yr Author I'm also in NL and working on a server. At the end of the day I decided on a (16 drive) Lian Li based system (PC-A77FB + 4xEX-H34), but found Norco's here (ri-vier.nl). Thanks for your reply. Lian Li has nice cases, i have a v2000 right now but since i'm moving out i'm giving it to my parents and build a bigger system for myself. I've looked at the link you gave, to bad they don't have the Norco 4224. I called them and they said it should take a few months because they have to import a container. So all i can do is import it myself. It has high shipping costs though. But then i wouldn't worry about space for a long time... So i'll think about it, for now i'm looking for a motherboard that will support the 24 drives with 2 Supermicro AOC-SASLP-MV8.
September 18, 201015 yr It looks to me like the motherboard you have can actually run three SuperMicro cards.
