December 6, 20187 yr So I had a disk to drop out of my array. I rebooted the server to see if it would come back online, it didn't. I have tested all the disks and they are fine. So it turns out the cable was faulty. I shutdown the server, replaced the cable. I now have the server back online and the disk is seen but I cannot mount it. The log says Dec 6 05:48:00 Heart-Of-Gold unassigned.devices: Adding disk '/dev/sdg1'... Deep-Thought was another machine on my network but no longer exists. I dont really understand why its mentioned. I dont seem to have lost any data as unraid is emulating the disconnected disk. I would like if possible to re-add it without rebuilding the array. oh I might add whilst diagnosing the faulty cable all disks were shifted around on which sata cable they connected to but I believe this does not matter Thanks heart-of-gold-diagnostics-20181206-0551.zip Edited December 6, 20187 yr by Squiggley
December 6, 20187 yr Community Expert If the disk dropped out of the array why are you trying to mount it with UD? If you think the disk is fine, stop the array, re-assign the disk to its original slot, start the array to rebuild on top.
December 6, 20187 yr Author Thanks for the response @johnnie.black I am a complete muppet! Of course that's what I should be doing! So I stopped the array and added the drive back into the slot and now I got a message that the drive content is being reconstructed. Could you tell me why it needs to rebuild the data? If its already there? Thanks
