I am building an efficient and quiet media server. It will run Ubiquiti NVR and Plex media server. Plex will have to deliver max 1x4K stream.

 

  • 3x 3TB WD RED - for storage and media files
  • 1x 4TB WD Purple - for surveillance storage
  • i3-8300T, 4 cores 3.2Ghz, 35W TDP, Quick Sync Video, EEC
  • Samsung 16GB 2666MHZ DDR4 EEC

 

I chose these components as now these are only what I can get on retail. Recently it is really hard to get Intel CPUs. 

 

Should I ditch EEC memory and replace CPU to something more powerful like 8700T 6 cores, 12 threads 2.4Ghz - 4.0Ghz, 35W TDP? It would give me more power for vms but it does not support EEC memory.
