December 26, 20187 yr I use this together with an asus Z9PA-D8 motherboard. So I have a SuperMicro AOC-SAS2LP-MV8 card and a pike 2008 card. When I start up it either chooses one of these cards at random but never both. Am I doing something wrong. Really would like to be able to rebuild my old server with this newer hardware and start tinkering with storage and VM's. Can anyone get me up and running with hints. Read somewhere that it could have somethjing to do with IT mode and the two cards not liking eacht other in this setup. OR can I go another route by not using the AOC-SAS2LP-MV8 and use something else instead together with the pikecard?

Are you saying your trying to boot from a drive instead of the unraid USB?
December 26, 20187 yr Author USB in place but before starting, you see all the text on screen after post. I used to see the card and the on board sata connections but since my move to other hardware it does what I described above

Anyways I recommend trying to boot with one card and then the other to see if either of them boot separately with this new board. If one does and the other doesn't perhaps try moving the slots around and if there are any bios updates try that as well.
December 26, 20187 yr Author I can move the AOC-SAS2LP-MV8 but with the pike card, it's impossible. Weird thing is that it seems to boot showing one card first and in another boot the other but never at the same time.

Can you name an alternative that might work? need 16 sata ports in total, 8 of them are on the mobo, steered by the pike card, or is that a marvel based one too, then i'm properly ( well the f word isn't usable here)
December 27, 20187 yr Author Maybe a stupid question, will two of these LSI based (pike card is also lsi 2008) work together without problems or should I take something else into account? Found a dell perc 310 and perc h200 card, wich is the better choice?

Both use the same chip, but the H200 has 2 external ports while the H310 has 2 internal, which one is best depends on the intended use.

December 30, 20187 yr Author UPDATE: Have received my H200 HBA in IT mode, installed it but still no joy. Can someone tell me how I can check in what mode my PIKE card is? Getting a bit frustated hoped for an easier swap from older ish hardware.
July 9, 20197 yr You need to set the order of the cards in the card bios. If the cards have been flashed to IT mode without including the bios (mptsas2.rom) which they usually are to allow faster boot times, then you will have issues.
