December 27, 20187 yr Community Expert I have UnRaid 6.2.4 and have recently found the password associated with root no longer works. I had changed it when setting up a year ago and it has worked until now. Any information on how to recover would be a help. thanks
December 27, 20187 yr Author Community Expert Perfect...Just what I was looking for (I searched but didn't find this). Thanks
December 27, 20187 yr Author Community Expert OK, I guess I spoke too soon. Now, windows just says "\\Tower\ cannot be found by windows. please check your spelling and try again." I can get the UI up but cannot get to the shares. Sorry to be such a PITA, but this is frustrating.
December 27, 20187 yr Community Expert Go to Tools - Diagnostics and attach the complete diagnostics zip to your next post.
December 28, 20187 yr Author Community Expert Here let me know if this worked. It was a convoluted path to get this from the server to the computer I have my email on. The weird thing is that I can get to the UI, but not to the file structure. I recently had an issue with my main computer and had to re-install that windows, and I'm not sure if that caused it, or if it was something else all together. Plus, at this point I've tried so many different things to get this working, I'm no longer sure where my solid ground is. Thanks for the help- tower-diagnostics-20181228-1635.7z

Why did you go to all the trouble to create a .7z anyway? The diagnostics download you get from the webUI is already a .zip file. Just go to where your browser downloaded the file and post it. 15 hours ago, lockrob2000 said: recently had an issue with my main computer and had to re-install that windows, and I'm not sure if that caused it Probably. There is a "sticky" pinned near the top of this same subforum about trying to work through Windows problems with file sharing: https://forums.unraid.net/topic/53172-windows-issues-with-unraid/
December 29, 20187 yr Author Community Expert All right try this. I had the issue of win10 only showing the file as decompressed in file manager. sorry- tower-diagnostics-20181228-1635.zip

December 29, 20187 yr Author Community Expert That's weird, I've always been able to get to the file structure with only that. I feel like I'm in Alice in Wonderland. Every step I take leads me to another issue. So you think that I need to create another user with access, (what?) using the name of the computer? thanks-

December 29, 20187 yr Community Expert There are several 'gotcha's' connected with accessing shares using SMB. They have been known to give people grief... Let me suggest that you might want to read this post and the next several posts that follow it to avoid most of them. https://forums.unraid.net/topic/25064-user-share-problem/?tab=comments#comment-228392
December 29, 20187 yr Author Community Expert I set the system up with public shares. I guess that is how I was able to access it. But what has changed? I made sure that the SMB master was the TOWER, and I can now see the TOWER in the file structure but cannot get to it. When I try I get the windows error of "\\TOWER|\ cannot be found by windows. Please check the spelling and try again." Not sure how many spelling there are, but I am spelling it correctly.

December 29, 20187 yr Author Community Expert Sorry, no...that is not there. I sometimes make bad typing decisions, but that is only there in the note.

From inside the opened zip file you just need to go up one level to get to the actual zip file.
December 29, 20187 yr Author Community Expert 25 minutes ago, Squid said: Thanks and what @Frank1940 suggests Sorry, I missed this. If I browse to the IP in the browser, I can connect. If I try in windows explorer, I get the error that says it cannot be found. I read in one of the suggestions that SMB does not allow multiple server connections and since I do not get the option of putting in a password, I wonder if I have a connection somewhere that needs to be cleared? This has not been an issue before, but I am wondering why it is going directly to the error without the option of logging in?
December 29, 20187 yr Author Community Expert I just rechecked, and if I type the IP into windows explorer, it very helpfully opens the location in the browser. If I click on the location in explorer (it is showing there) I get the error about it not being found.
December 29, 20187 yr Community Expert When you get things working again, please upgrade. It is difficult to support those old versions of Unraid. In fact, I have to wonder if your Unraid version is compatible with your plugins. Have you tried SAFE mode? As already mentioned, root user technically has no network file access. But since Public shares have unrestricted access, it really wouldn't matter how you logged in to access public shares. If you have any mapped drives to Unraid get rid of them. Create an Unraid user, simpler if it is the same as your Windows user. Then go to Windows Control Panel - Credential Manager and delete any Unraid credentials so they can be renegotiated. Then try again with the user you created.
December 29, 20187 yr Author Community Expert OK, I was able to get to the shares using file explorer after deleting the windows credential manager generic account that was there. Now I just have to get newsleecher to see them. Also, I am having trouble upgrading from 6.2.4 to 6.5.3. I keep getting an out of bounds IP (169.254.25.145) everytime. I have tried 2 different ways as suggested in the forum, and I cannot find a compatible Community Applications App anymore. The new one doesn't work with this old version, so while all t he post suggest cleaning up the version using CA, I can't. Do yo know if there is a repository of older versions?
December 29, 20187 yr Author Community Expert I've got to say. Finding and deleting that UnRaid account was so simple but so great. Its something I did not even consider. Thanks for suggesting it. That was the solution. Now I can move on to the bigger problem of upgrading without losing all my files. Thanks for the patient help-
December 29, 20187 yr Community Expert Try this. Go to the Plugins page, click on the Install Plugin tab, copy-and-paste the following: https://s3.amazonaws.com/dnld.lime-technology.com/stable/unRAIDServer.plg That should install the latest stable version. (It is what you should be running...) BUT before you do that make sure that you update all of your other plugins first!

Would probably make more sense to just uninstall all plugins and reinstall them after the upgrade. Our plugin authors are not making their plugins compatible with those old versions of Unraid and I don't blame them.
December 30, 20187 yr Author Community Expert OK, I now have an "update" button on my plug-ins page beside the OS. It says reboot required...I have some trepidation. Do you think this is safe? (should I delete all the plugins first as suggested?
