Does unRAID have power timer features?

Recommended Posts

Hi all, It's been a while for me.  Ended up going with FreeNAS for a year, then Readynas for a year, and now Synology.  I'm making the rounds.  Anyway, I am looking for an OS for a backup server.  I have my FreeNAS gear ready to go.  The only thing is that I want an OS that has a power timer so that I can set it to turn on and off at a certain time.  I just want it to run for a couple hours once a week for backup duties from the main nas.  Does unRAID do this?

If not, and if anyone has any other suggestions, I'd be grateful.  The only other requirements would be that it has to support RAID5 and run from a usb stick, since I i need all 6 SATA ports on my board.

Thanks

There is no built-in support for this.   There is, however, a third party plugin for putting the server to S3 sleep.    You need support on your motherboard for handling the wake-up side of things.

Unraid does not have RAID5 support (hence the name) but has equivalent functionality in terms of protection against disk failure.   You might want to read the online documentation for an understanding of how Unraid handles parity protection (which is optional if you do not want to use it).
