Yes, I have passed through the iGPU in the docker template per the docker template instructions using the extra parameters section.  The card shows up under /dev/dri.

Unmanic has been working great. my entire library is converted to h265. and it picks up new files when downloaded.

 

But....something happened with the recent update...i did the update and then several hours later noticed its trying to encode everything all over again! what happened??? everything was already encoded. checked settings and everything is how it was before. nothing was changed from the update. any help would be appreciated. thanks.

I have the same thing going on it is trying re-encode all x265 content including 2160p stuff that was already x265. Some resulted in a small decrease. 1 or 2 actually increased in size slightly. A lot of failed ones that I downloaded x265 and were never re-encoded by unmanic till now. unmaniac still fails on subtitles that handbrake has no problems with.

Actually, what it looks like is it's just flying over it without doing a whole lot of encoding if at all.

@jonfive In your case here the FFProbe has detected that your old file is in a "matroska,webm" container. Whereas the application settings mandate that video files need to be in a "matroska" container. So nothing is being transcoded here, just remuxed. The job would only take a couple of seconds and does not use any hardware acceleration as it is not encoding any video streams.

What is the consequence if audio transcoding isn’t checked? How does it affect the file from a playback perspective?

If you do not have "Enable Audio Stream Transcoding" checked, then whatever audio streams exist in the original file will be copied to the destination file with no changes made to it's codec.

 

I personally do not have this checked as my playback devices can handle any codec fine (with the exception of the Chromecast).

As an example that affects me personally, I had some videos that contained audio streams encoded with some kind of DD 7.1. My Chromecast could not play these and Plex would not transcode the audio when it tried (it would happily transcode the video, but not he audio). I didn't want to remove the surround sound streams from my files. My Chromecast (in the kitchen) only plays stereo anyway. So my solution was to add this setting to Unmanic that clones the audio stream (at the cost of an extra few MB per result file). On the Plex app I can then select the stereo channel when casting these videos to the kitchen Chromecast and the video files that were unable to play before now work perfectly fine.

 

 

These settings are really dependant on your setup. You may have no issues with audio playback on any of your players. And in that circumstance I would recommend NOT selecting the "Enable Audio Encoding" checkbox at the top of that page at all. When that is not selected, then your audio streams are left completely untouched and are just "copied" into the new destination file.

I tried the cloning process, however, it still gives me the same overload of the resources. it may not be as long, but it is still slowing everything down. In addition, I am noticing that it hasn't transcoded the videos for my tv shows. They are currently sitting and keeps trying to just do movies. I don't know what is going on here.

Just wanted to +1 this recent development and add a bit of insight that may help others.  I have a Plex setup that does not have surround sound capability but can handle H.265 video.  When I stream a H.265 video on that device that does not have a stereo track, Plex transcodes the video stream to H.264 while it downmixes the multi-channel audio to stereo.  This transcoded stream now requires more bandwidth simply because it's H.264.  This change to Unmanic is awesome in that it has automatically gone through my entire library adding a stereo audio track to videos that didn't already have one, and now the client I'm referring to will directplay the H.265 videos because of the presence of the 2 channel audio track.

This is a separate issue. It is to be expected that a task like an FFMpeg encode would attempt to use all resources it has available to carry out the job. Audio encoding and remuxing is only being done on the CPU and your NVENC encoder will bot be used.

 

For most people who use Unmanic, this is something that they want to have running in the background.  Furthermore, it is the sort of thing that they are running in the background sharing resources with other processes. For these people (again, most people) it is HIGHLY recommended to limit resource use by your Unmanic Docker container.

This is a screenshot of my config. Because I am using NVENC for hardware acceleration, I do not need the CPU to do much. I have pinned Unmanic to just a couple of cores and have then limited the use across those cores to 30% (--cpus='.3').

Even if you were not using hardware acceleration, you should be limiting the resources Unmanic can use in a similar way to this as otherwise it will affect your other processes on your server. There is currently no way to limit the workers resource use in Unmanic, and I am unsure if there will be any time soon. Completely agree and have done the same thing based on your intial posts of CPU limiting and hardware acceleration setup. When I start unmanic, however, resources still shoot up.

@Josh.5 Exactly! My CPU and RAM spikes to 100% when unmanic is running. This wasn't happening in before so it's crazy to me where the issue is coming from. Love unmanic and want to continue using it...just need to figure out how to get it running properly again without killing all resources and processes.

 

On a separate note, where should the transcode be running? Should it be through the ram or somewhere else? I have 2TB cache and as you see 64GB of RAM.

Could you try re-creating the docker container. Just modify the template and click apply.

If that does not work, could you try moving the appdata/unmanic directory to appdata/unmanic_backup and restart the container. You will need to reconfigure the Unmanic settings.

 

I personally use `/dev/shm/unmanic` for my cache as I have enough spare ram for this.

@Josh.5 So I completely deleted the container and the folder and reinstalled. So far so good, however, now my hardware transcode is not working. Current settings, but I thought this was correct.

The settings look fine to me. I don't normally have driver capabilities at all. Just delete it. I also have my nvidia gpu I'd just set to "all" as I only have the one gpu anyway. Perhaps the uuid is wrong in your settings? Try setting it to all.

 

Also, once you have configured the hardware acceleration, you will need to restart Unmanic for it to be applied to the current pending list.
