joefig44
Recently on my Unraid server (v 6.x - unsure and cant' check now) I've been getting intermittent error messages when access user shares that state the folder is no longer available. The first time this happened a few weeks ago I shut down the server and restarted it to find that it would not come back onto the network. After hard rebooting several times and hitting the enter key after one of those once, I got it back up and running. Note that I do not have a monitor setup on the server currently, so don't actually know what is going on in there....that's my next step. Now the same issue started happening again, and I can't seem to get it back up. My next step is to find a monitor somewhere to try and see what is going on, but thought I'd ask here first for any help. Quote Link to comment
trurl
Are you sure it's booting? Can you ping it? If you're not sure it's booting you will definitely need that monitor. Quote Link to comment

No, actually I'm pretty sure it's not fully booting because I can't ping it and I also can't see it in my router's list of devices. Lights on network card light up when booting but then go out Quote Link to comment
trurl
Well there are some things we could try and should probably do anyway. Do you have a recent backup of your flash drive? Quote Link to comment
joefig44
I do not. So hooked up a monitor and basically it boots and loads until starts rsyslogd daemon. Then it says this: modprobe: FATAL : Module ATL1E not found modprobe : WARNING: Module ATL1E not found in directory /lib/modules/4.14.4.... Quote Link to comment

It should be found in: That would explain why you are getting no IP address. I assume your NIC is an Atheros? With no network connectivity, lots of things are going to be inaccessible/unavailable. Once you see that error on the monitor, what happens? Does it keep trying to boot unRAID or does it stop at that error? Something on your flash drive must be corrupt if it is failing to load the kernel drivers properly. You may need to start over with your flash drive if you have no backup. I'll let the experts take it from here. Quote Link to comment

I also tried unplugging the network cable from the Atheros network card and plugged it into the network port on the motherboard. While I get flickering lights I still get the same error I quoted above and the same result. Edited January 9, 2019 by joefig44 Quote Link to comment
joefig44
Ok, after a few more reboots, I still get the same errors I posted but now I have flickering lights on the network card AND access to the server. First thing I'm doing is taking a backup of the USB. Here is the diagnostic file diagtower-diagnostics-20190108-1834.zip BTW, I'm running v 6.5.3 Edited January 9, 2019 by joefig44 Quote Link to comment
trurl
You can download a zipped backup of flash by going to Main - Boot Device - Flash - Flash Backup. The intermittent nature of your problem suggests a problem with the port. Try plugging flash into another port, preferably USB2 Quote Link to comment

So, you think that it's more about which port the USB key is plugged into and not what port the network cable is plugged into? Quote Link to comment
trurl
If the only problem you're having is a network problem then maybe it is something to do with your networking hardware. It looks like your flash has a number of FSCK*.REC files on it though, which suggests corruption on flash was repaired. And if you are using a USB3 port that is a common source of problems. You should also delete the file config/plugins/dynamix.plg from flash. It looks like it isn't loading anyway, but it is incompatible with your Unraid version and has caused problems on some versions. Thanks, I'll look into this. Question: so if it is a faulty NIC card, I do have a network mobo port I can plug into. It lights up too when plugged into, but I can't seem to get it to work (but can't tell if it's my main issue or if it is due to something I may need to do in unraid to enable the intregated NIC)? If you remove the card and the mobo port is not disabled in the BIOS so it is the only one available for Unraid to choose then it should choose it. Quote Link to comment

I managed to get the other port to work. Now let's see if it is stable or if it starts exhibiting the same symptoms I had before (which would indicate it's not the network port and may be something else) Quote Link to comment

So, as mentioned I managed to get it to work but I notice now two key things have changed: 1. The server name: it's no longer called "executioner" - what I named it before, but instead called just Tower 2. It says "Docker Service Failed to Start" Any ideas what I should be doing beyond what you recommended above? Quote Link to comment

trurl
I don't see anything obvious in those, and looking back, it was named Tower in your previous diagnostics. Probably had flash corruption at some point that caused it to go to default. Quote Link to comment

The backup I took was of this flash (post corruption). Quote Link to comment
trurl
Just go forward from here and change any settings you need to then get another backup. I found a post of yours from Dec.2 with diagnostics attached. If you open them and look in the config folder you can read some of those .cfg files for a clue to what you had before. https://forums.unraid.net/topic/76047-docker-apps-disappeared/?do=findComment&comment=701806 Quote Link to comment

Or do I somehow do it on the unraid console? Quote Link to comment
joefig44
Nevermind, found it all in Settings on the console. I'm back up and running now! Thanks! Quote Link to comment
