January 9, 20197 yr I just bought a used storage system. This is populated with 24 drives. What I forgot: I need two additional cache devices. What's the best solution? Cables in this system are hand-crafted and fit perfect. So there's no room to add additional power plugs. I was thinking about a PCIe 3.0 M.2 riser card because this MB has plenty of PCIe 3.0 x16, x8 and x4 slots free. For two SATA SSDs I would need to redo the cabeling completely or bring additional external power into that case. Is there a PCIe M.2 adapter with two M.2 slots that will work with Unraid? Many thanks in advance. Case: Supermicro SC846E16 Backplane: BPN-SAS2-846EL1 MB: Supermicro X9DRi-F Dual LGA 2011 CPU: 2x Intel Xeon E5-2609 V2 4 Core RAM: 64GB DDR3 ECC REG (4 x 16GB) HBA: LSI 9300-8i

January 9, 20197 yr Author Thanks. My MB does not support bifurcation. Do you think two of these PCIe adapter cards with one M-key M.2 per card would work?
January 9, 20197 yr Yes, you can get something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Lycom-DT-120-PCIe-Adapter-Support/dp/B00MYCQP38
January 10, 20197 yr Author Did order two of these cards plus two Samsung 970 EVO to build up a cache pool. Will report.
January 10, 20197 yr Should work, I used one of the HyperX PCIe M.2 SSDs in my previous unraid build (x58 board), which has this kind of adaptor. Edited January 10, 20197 yr by tjb_altf4
