Would like to add 2x M.2 SSD as cache. How?

Featured Replies

I just bought a used storage system. This is populated with 24 drives. What I forgot: I need two additional cache devices. What's the best solution?

Cables in this system are hand-crafted and fit perfect. So there's no room to add additional power plugs. I was thinking about a PCIe 3.0 M.2 riser card because this MB has plenty of PCIe 3.0 x16, x8 and x4 slots free.

For two SATA SSDs I would need to redo the cabeling completely or bring additional external power into that case.

Is there a PCIe M.2 adapter with two M.2 slots that will work with Unraid?

Many thanks in advance.

Case: Supermicro SC846E16
Backplane: BPN-SAS2-846EL1
MB: Supermicro X9DRi-F Dual LGA 2011
CPU: 2x Intel Xeon E5-2609 V2 4 Core
RAM: 64GB DDR3 ECC REG (4 x 16GB)
HBA: LSI 9300-8i

There is, for example this one, but board needs to support PCIe bifurcation.

Thanks.

My MB does not support bifurcation. Do you think two of these PCIe adapter cards with one M-key M.2 per card would work?

Did order two of these cards plus two Samsung 970 EVO to build up a cache pool.

Will report.

Should work, I used one of the HyperX PCIe M.2 SSDs in my previous unraid build (x58 board), which has this kind of adaptor.
