September 25, 201015 yr Hi guys, I'm not sure what I've done, sorry story is a little long.... I had added two new disks earlier in the week 1 as a replacment partiy, 1 as a new data disk. (had some issues bue JoeL sorted me out) anyway, i thoguht after 3 days of it working well it was about time i screwed the new drives down and took out the old parity disk. i took screen shots of the array running, and screen shots of the devices page (including a drop down menu showing the disk serials i was pulling out.) I stopped the array, and powered down. and then took out the old disks. booting back the party and the D4(latest addition) were missing from the array as expected, they were now on different sata cables. But when i added them back to the array D4 alway lists as missing. now it gets weird. I used restore, to try and bring the array back online (i confirmed all the disks were in the right place as per Disk number in unraid against serials from the screen shot. 1) the array will come online, but all the shares are mising. 2) if i telnet into disk 4 i see the correct file structure, but i also see files which were put onto the share a long time before the D4 was added - I didn't know files were moved onto emptier drives that had already been written? (could this have happened when i looked at disk fill methods a few days ago?) 3) If I take D4 out of the array and start it, the shares come back and are accessable again... I'm very confused. Q - How can i get disk 4 back into the array and have the share live? My plan was to just format/clean the parity disk, and the D4 disk, then add them back to the parity using the gui, But as there are now files from the existing share on Disk 4 I would need to get them off D4 before I format it.... I'm in a bit of a pickle, and it's getting late so I thoguht I'd (for once...) ask advice before blinding heading off down the wrong track... (I hope I haven't already done that!!!) thanks as always for any help. No logs attached as I don't suppose they would be usfull ... but I can attach if they would be helpfull. Tony.
September 27, 201015 yr Author ~OK I fixed it... after much head scratching and many many reboots... I was being stupid... I had added extra stuff to my go file. This was to start up an old instance of vmware server. When I stole out that disk as part of the upgrade process I inadvertantly mounted disk4 ... Hence why unraid server was unable to start my shares. I'm an idiot. T
