January 18, 20197 yr I've been using Unraid for months and have been loving it. I expanded my array yesterday to include a new additional hard drive and everything is running smoothly, however I am confused in how adding another drive doesn't require an immediate parody check. If parody is based off of a simple math problem of 1's and 0's how does adding a new drive not mess with that without rebuilding parody?
January 18, 20197 yr If the drive isn't all zeros, then you are right parity will have to be corrected. However, if you followed the normal procedure to add a new drive, unraid will fill the drive with zeroes before adding it. After the zeroing process is done, unraid will allow you to format it.
January 18, 20197 yr Community Expert Did you follow the normal procedure? You should have noticed it taking some noticeable time to clear (zero) the new disk before it could format it. Possibly even hours if it was a large disk. If you didn't follow the normal procedure what did you do?
