Plex HW transcoding only taxing 1 core

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

I setup Plex (Linuxserver.io container) and did the changes to make HW transcoding work, which it does.

See pic attached.

But I noticed it only ever really taxes one core.

And it struggles badly to transcode 4k down to anything less.

Any ideas how I can get more out of this?

Make it run a bit better?

I also meant to say its not the same core always, its bounces between them all.

Just never uses more than one at a time.

Can anyone help with this?

There was someone else I saw who had this issue because, I think, they had cores pinned to their Plex Docker that were also isolated. In practice pinned cores cannot be isolated.

Hey sorry for the late reply.

I dont have any CPU pinning or isolation.

I just let everything use all cores.

Also like I said above it isnt always the same core, which would be the case if it was pinned right?

Where can I check isolation?

Ok so no isolated cpu's.

And no pinned

Your problem is either CPU, disk, network, or iGPU bottleneck.  You're already monitoring CPU, iotop and iftop will allow you to monitor disk and network.  Lastly, intel-gpu-top will allow you to monitor the iGPU.
