Upgrading cache to encrypted

Featured Replies

Hey, i have 2 cache ssds. In parity. (standard?)

Could i just remove one cache, format, and readd with brtfs encrypted instead of copying back and forth with these mysterios commands i saw somewhere on the forum? (i guess also faster?)

No. You can, however, set all your shares to cache yes, disable both VM and docker services, and run mover. Once that completes, the cache pool should be empty and you can change the format type to encrypted, and format the pool. Then set whichever shares you want to live on the cache back to cache prefer and run the mover. Reenable VM and docker, and you are good to go.

Keep in mind mover won't touch open files, so be sure NOT to turn vm or docker service back on in settings until the move is done. If you see a VM or Docker tab available on the GUI while the mover is running, it won't work right. This applies to the move to clear off the cache and the move to repopulate it. Probably shouldn't enable either one until the whole process is done.
