pyrater
Current Server Compo. This would leave 2 ports empty unless i purchase a 1 x sata card. Would this fix my slow parity speeds due to not being CPU limited on single core parity checks or would it just be a giant waste of time? I have 20 drives all ranging from 1 TB to 8 TB with dual parity. The current build works fine / great except for the parity checks which take "Duration: 1 day, 22 hours, 15 minutes. Average speed: 48.1 MB/sec". Thoughts? Quote Link to comment
pyrater
sooo that was a waste of time. I swapped out the Supermicro setup for the i5 setup and i am still getting the same pairty check speeds. Not sure if theres any way to get faster speeds... Is it number of disk related? On my other 8 bay unraid travel server it is faster.... Quote Link to comment

JorgeB
Config is not optimal since one of the LSI HBAs in on a x4 PCH slot, besides being a x4 slot it shares the DMI bandwidth with the other 2 port controller and the onboard SATA ports, still speed should be better than that, one thing you should change is the default tunables, with so many disks they are not optimal, try these (you can change them during the check): Settings -> Disk Settings Tunable (md_num_stripes): 4096 Tunable (md_sync_window): 2048 Tunable (md_sync_thresh): 2000 Also, to confirm that the PCH HBA it at least linking at x4, post the output of: lspci -vv -s 01:00.0 and lspci -vv -s 02:00.0 1 Quote Link to comment

Thank you!!! The new tuneables you gave me increased the speed from 40-50 to 65-75. so that is a big increase though i would think this setup could do around 100 MPBS. Quote Link to comment

JorgeB
Estimated speed:85.1 MB/sec That's not a bad boost, and not far from the max that config can do, which by my calculations is around 100/110MB/s, to get a considerable bump you'd likely need a board with 2 CPU PCIe slots, like a server board or a desktop board with SLI support. JorgeB
The CPU has enough lanes, the problem is the board, server boards usually have two CPU x8 PCIe slots instead of just one x16, same for SLI boards when both slots are in use, they are x16/x0 or x8/x8. 1 Quote Link to comment
