i have a Asus  Maxmimus Hereo VIII  board  i installed Unraid  and booted it up and i just get 169.xx.x.x.x      i boot up in Gui Mode  it cant do localhost  cant find it

there is options  like Start Button when i click it the text is microscopic..  like its 1pt  size

That can happen if the flash drive is not being mounted correctly during the boot process.

can you log in at the console?   If so you can try the ‘df’ command to see is there is a /boot device mounted (which is where the flash drive gets mounted).

i can do the console you see above with the tiny printing  that is  unraid Gui mode  and i tried Unraid Safe mode gui    and also tinny

so i cant tell what to click  the start button and the 4 or 5 options all  microscoptic    as you can see in first pic

i thought maybe it was 6.6.6   but i tried  6.6.5  and 6.5.3  an still doing same fatal error

and i tried  DHCP  and Static  no difference..  i also tried  Installing by Zip file  manual  and still cant get an IP

did i do something wrong.. is it the BIOS setting   i turned off Fast Bootup  in bios as when i watch Linus Tech tips do 2 Gaming 1 CPU they said to disable Fastboot up not sure what the difference is  but thats only thing

and i boot up in bios UEFI one of the bootable options

Are you putting your flash drive in a USB2 or USB3 port? You should be using a USB2 port.

did i maybe configure something wrong?

  • Author

i tried both  same issue usb 2 or 3  same error

There might be something wrong with your flash drive or the file system has errors.

  • Author

no i havent  i been using this computer all the time  for the windows 10  no issues  i just wanted to try this 2 vms  with 2 monitors  and just been stuck

ill try another usb...  as i have tried download unraid  or the manual  download and install by zip file and neither way works

  • Author

so i tried to run Memtest    both in UEFI and non uefi mode  and the computer reboots after saying loading ok

just waiting for the new usb to finish downloading

  • Author

so new usb

UEFI boot  memtest just reboots    Unraid boots up ok

non UEFI boot   mem test works    Unraid boots up ok

and both usbs are new.. does that mean something wrong with my usb  can i fix it weird how this 2nd one works

so what does that mean  now 2nd usb  it works and doesnt work

is there a bios setting i need to change

im going to try now  Uncheck  EFI boot in unraid install  on the first usb to see if it will boot up properly  unchecking it  but i confused why it didnt work

  • Author

i guess 2nd usb kinda works??

so Console says 192.168.0.53    now when i use my laptop  and do 192.168.0.53/      in the browser  page cant be found  i can ping it ok..

this very strange...  is there a BIOS setting  that could be causing this

  • Author

so installing on my first usb  unchecking the EFI boot  and when i try to boot up usb in either usb2 port or 3  doesnt boot up... soo messed up i tell ya hmmm

  • Author

so for the console thats working on USB stick #2 i tried

i booted up to Unraid Gui mode... i have internet  i can goto websites..

those tasks when you click start button still microscoptic

also  localhost   or 127.0.0.1  or 192.168.0.53 (unraid ip addy) still  unable to access unraid  gui  part

whats going on.. i have no idea i as im no expert of this unraid or linux stuff

so im able to get the gui  through my laptop to work  for the 2nd usb stick  still cant use the gui when i choose  unraid gui option...  and the start button options and screen is microscoptic is there a way to fix that why does that happen..

and for the 1st usb  that no matter what computer i use it in  it cant mount that bond and i even tried different usb ports when burning it..

is that something wrong with the USB stick itself?  guess its only good for a windows 10 boot disk?

Just make sure the USB port you’re using for your flash drive is black. Not a blue or red port.

  • Author

im using black port on my computer but its wired to the internal motherboard connector...

is there issues using red or blue ports?? and i did notice if i use the USB on the back of the computer  it gets an IP addresss i can do \\192.x.x.x.   but i cant access teh web gui   or use the name i gave it..

is this something that will be fixed is that something bad usb ports have..  and what happens when my next motherboard is just USB 3.1 ports and 3 so blue and red what do you do then??  so is my other usb faulty or something?

so this is glitching  i guess ugh..

if i reboot the unraid now on my Asus Maxmimus board   Gui doesnt work

\\gaming    as i called it gaming works to access the file share of flash

but in browswer     gaming/   or 192.168.0.4/     isnt working now  i frustrated  spent not 6 hours trying to get this unraid to work on my desktop computer  no problems  on my Crosshair Formula IV  motherboard  both Asus ROG boards  and that one never had 1 issue ever for settiing up  whats going on

i also use the same SE9 Kingston 16gb usbs too...  ugh

so i just working on the unraid for my gaming comp it seems to be ok.. at the moment

im going to use  2  1TB SSDs   to have 2 gaming machines  out of this 1 comp

do i set the 2 SSDs  as 1 Data 1 Parity    and then give each one 500gb  for games

or would it be better 2 Data and get a 3rd 1TB for Parity

or do they need to be cache.. as id like it speedy but hold the most games... as i even see about installing it over the network game  so use my other unraid server to store the Game files  and map a drive letter

id like to setup 2 Windows 98 VMs and 2 Windows 10 VMs  so i can switch back and forth so can game 2 Windows 98 games  or then switch to newer games and run 2 Windows 10 VMs
