January 30, 20197 yr Currently I have an entire 5400rpm drive system with the exception of an SSD. If I swap out the Parity for a 7200rpm would I see an increase of speed at all or is the old adage its only as fast as the slowest drive? The reason I ask is I'm considering swapping out my Parity anyways so I could use its larger capacity in my array, but if its nothing worth upgrading for then I'll pass and put my money to better use else where in my system.
January 30, 20197 yr Reading is purely a function of the target data disk speed, no more, no less. Writing is a combination of the target data disk and parity. Increasing the parity speed will only effect writes to multiple simultaneous data disks. Reconstruct write mode changes that equation.
