Can't format new drive(s)!!

Featured Replies

Hi there,

Tonight, I upgraded my unraid harward.  It was a Celeron 2.8, running a vantec PCI 6-port (2 are e-sata attached to 2 internals).  I had 4 2TB WD20EARS drives connected to the raid card.  All was fine...

I purchased a asrock A785GM-LE motherboard, and an Athlon V4 640 (quad core 3 GHz).  The motherboard has 6 3gbps sata ports on it, so I didn't put the PCI controller card back in.

The unraid starts up perfectly, i attached the 4 other drives back to the array, and it connects no problem, i can view all my files.

So, to add on the new drives (2 more 2TB drives)... stop the array, attach 1 of them to the array, check yes to format, and it starts "clearing disk(s)"... it's been a while now (maybe 1 hr), and it is still at 0%.  no reads, no writes, no nothing.

I am not sure what I have done wrong here... Do I have to set the sata onboard to RAID / JBOD?  or keep it as IDE?  i am lost...

I dont remember it taking NEAR as long formatting/installing the old drive on the celeron...

anyone help?

i dunno... maybe i am to quick to act?

I read another post on here, and I changed it to ACHI mode in the bios,  i also removed the 1 IDE drive i had (i will remount it via USB later as it is not part of my protected array)

I did try it with installing the other RAID card i was using (moved 5 & 6 drives over to that, and it didn't make any difference)

Well... it is almost 11pm here, i dont REALLY need to watch TV right now, so i'll let it do it's thing over night, and hopefully it is doing what it is supposed to be...

Yeah, it cleared them up last night, and then i had to format them... all is good...  I guess I was just too quick to react, and should have just waited a little bit :)

Thanks again for an awesome product... I LOVE IT :)  (now, to just have V5 out of beta...)
