[SOLVED] Unraid 6.6.5 - Cant write to docker image. Docker service failed to start

Featured Replies

Hi,

I recently upgraded my cache drive from a 250GB SSD to 500GB SSD, following the guide here --> https://wiki.unraid.net/Replace_A_Cache_Drive

I configured the new drive to be formatted using BTRFS - the previous drive was XFS.

Everything was going fine. Array started AOK. VM's up and running, but I got a series of errors about the cache drive:

  1. Your existing Docker image file needs to be recreated due to an issue from an earlier beta of Unraid 6. Failure to do so may result in your docker image suffering corruption at a later time. Please do this NOW
  2. Docker service failed to start
  3. Unraid unable to write to docker image

Here are the things I've tried:

  1. I deleted the docker image and restarted docker. No joy. (Docker service failed to start)
  2. I moved the location of my docker.img from cache\Apps\Docker\docker.img to cache\appdata\Docker\docker.img. No joy. (Docker service failed to start)
  3. I increased the size of my docker image from 15GB to 30GB. No joy. (Docker service failed to start)
  4. I did a full stop array/restart machine. No joy. (Docker service failed to start)

Really not sure what to do any more. Any assistance would be appreciated. I've attached a diagnostics file in case you can glean anything from that.

Regards,

Jaso

Try deleting /config/docker.cfg on the flash drive, reboot, delete the docker.img file via settings - docker then try it all again.

Thanks Squid that did the trick (After another restart

All my docker images have disappeared but I figure I can rebuild them and maintain the data if I get the config the same as before.

You should be able to re-install all docker containers with Settings intact from the Previous Apps section of Community Applications

Oh. My. God. What the?! I did not know that was a thing. I futzed around for hours yesterday re-installing and re-configuring just one relatively uncomplicated docker. After reading your post and poking around for a bit I found CA's "Previous Apps" section. (It's kind-of hidden away - I've never explored that area before). Anyway, I just installed my remaining dockers at the click of a few buttons. Saved me hours of time trying to match up weird configs I came up with years ago. Thanks folks. I am a seriously happy Unraid user.

Cheers,

Jaso
