General SMART Fails Questions

Featured Replies

Hi - so I know my disk 2 is failing after a little assistance from Squid and I was able to source a parity drive last night as I had not been running with one.

As this is a new Unraid build (the hardware was has been used on my Windows build) and I am just setting this up I have a raw back up of data from the old server I have not touched.

As a result I have been trying to learn a little more about the SMART system and what the errors mean but I'm struggling as there are so many variables.

As I understand it 197 should be 0 as data has been moved from the bad sector else where and 196 shows how many have been moved.

198 shows how many areas can not be fixed and 187 shows how many need looking at.

Now assuming I interpreted the above correctly where should I look to find if I have actually lost data to decide if I should quickly get another disk (which I am going to any way) and start fresh with the raw back up or not ?

Thanks

Terran
