February 2, 20197 yr Hey there, I just found an UEFI-bios for my old Sapphire 7950 GPU. The problem is, how do I get it flashed since I don’t have another pc near me. As it seems I need windows for flashing. Is it possible/safe to flash a gpu using passthrough in a windows vm? Or do I have to start an bare metal windows installation on my computer for flashing? February 2, 20197 yr Sorry I don't have the answer you're after but... I'm curious where you found the bios? I have an XFX Double D 7950 that doesn't have a UEFI compatible bios nor have I found one elsewhere.
February 3, 20197 yr Community Expert You might see if there is a Linux version of the Flashing Software. You might then be able to use a DVD (or CD) bootable Linux Distribution to boot your server.
February 3, 20197 yr Author I gave my item model number at techpowerup a try and found this https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/164761/164761 . It seems as flashing in a vm should work, but the atiflash win software crashed my vm after I started it. So I created an dos usb stick with atiflash. Worked flawlessly, but UEFI doesn’t work nevertheless. Without defining a rom my windows vm (seabios) showed UEFI enabled in GPU-Z, but my mac vm and also windows UEFI won’t show a picture even with a rom file. Unraid was booted in UEFI mode of course... I also tried the GPU as secondary and used an old gpu as primary. So I guess sadly I won’t get UEFI on my old 7950 EDIT: HA! Found one this one is working for me so far https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/137271/powercolor-hd7950-3072-121105 Tried it in a vm first and flashed it some minutes ago using atiflash in dos Edited February 3, 20197 yr by lixe
February 6, 20197 yr Nice. I'm frustrated that XFX doesn't have a bois available. I went through all of them for my card. That said, I got my VM to passthrough using seabios & setting to Q35.
