lixe
Hey there, right now I have these pcie cards in my server: pcie1x usb card for vms pcie16x gpu (sapphire7950) pcie1x wifi+bt card for macos vm pcie16x quad port NIC for pfsense pcie1x empty pcie4x empty m.2 ssd for vm I'm thinking about getting a nvidia gpu for gaming some day, but I would like to keep my sapphire for macos, so I would do something like this: pcie1x usb card for vms pcie16x nvidia pcie1x wifi+bt card for macos vm pcie16x gpu (sapphire7950) pcie1x empty pcie4x quad port NIC for pfsense (but force in bios to be pcie1x) m.2 ssd for vm I've tried something like that with an old nvidia9400, but it didn't work. The usb card, wifi+bt and quad NIC weren't recognized by my system, but I don't understand why. Of course I'm not able to run the pcie4x (quad nic) in 4x, because then the pcie1x slots get disabled. But if I set the pcie4x to 1x, shouldn't I at least get all my pcie1x devices? I've read somewhere that some people cut their quad nic so it fits in pcie1x slots, because they seem to not need more than that. But then shouldn't my "planned" system also work?
