First unRAID build gear check...

Featured Replies

Hello all, I currently have a Synology 415+ with a mixture of 3-8TB WD Red's. I'm planning to switch over to unRAID as I've tinkered a little with it ages ago and it seemed great. I will be serving Plex content to 1-2 clients, backing up multiple computers and probably running a couple of dockers. I'm trying to not spend crazy amounts and I want a cool & quiet system. Here's what I'm looking to order:

Case - Node 804

CPU/GPU - Ryzen 3 2200G

Motherboard - Asrock B450M Pro4 (Not sure if MSI B450M Mortar is worth extra?)

RAM - Team Vulcan 2x4GB 3000mhz DDR4

Storage - 2xPNY 240GB SSD's (1 for unRAID cache/1 for Plex Data). WD Red's will be transferred in from my Synology for actual storage.

PSU - be quiet! Pure Power 11 500w Gold

Cooling - 10xArctic F12 PWM 120mm fans for the case running at low RPM. Possibly Cryorig M9a for APU to lower noise.

What do you think? This will cost me a touch under £500 which seems reasonable for me considering I spent more than that on the GPU in my gaming PC. Any idea on what fan hub/controller I should get for the x10 case fans? And since the motherboard only has 4 sata ports, I'll need to buy a PCIe sata card right? Any advice on which one? Never bought one before.

Thanks in advance!
