I have a 6 disks in my array (including the cache disk) with a 7th unassigned, I cannot start the array without first disconnecting the unassigned disk but it allows me to reconnect and use the drive after the array is running.

 

Is the only way to upgrade to the pro license to avoid disconnecting the drive each time the array needs to be restarted?

    Yes, Pro or Plus, Plus allows up to 12 devices.
