Need help with my server built....

Featured Replies

Hello! Need help with my server building...

What i want to do: plug all my 16 hard drives (full of tv episodes, movies etc) in my computer box and see all of them seperately (not in raid) as if they were plugged all on the motherboard. The 16 hard drives are already plenty. Operating System running under Windows 10 x64.

I have tried 2 options...

1. I have a adapec ASR 71605 (firmware 7.5-0 (32084) ) that i plugged in, red lights are flashing on booting, plugged drives to it, but nothing show up on windows. Tried with HBA mode in the booting settings (Bios options of the card) = no succes. On booting it says: Waiting for controler to start Booting controler kernel Afm7000 status not ready No logical drive found No int 13 drive to support Then windows boots, but no drives shows up...

2. I have another card with wires, IBM 16 Port PCIe ServeRAID SAS SATA 6GB RAID Expansion Adapter 46M0997, i don’t know yet if the firmware is the 634a, (anyone know how to update / verify this under windows 10 x64?) i plugged it in the pcie slot (tried several pci slots) plugged drives to it, there is 2 lights flashing green/yellow on it, but like the other card, no hdd’s detected, and i cannot see the card under the periperals of windows...

I am trying to make all this working for over 3 weeks now.. no success... anyone can help me to learn what i am missing or doing wrong here? The main goal is to plug and see all the contents of my hard drives connected to the card (one or the other) like seperate drives under windows 10 x64 system

Thanks in advance for all the help in advance!

You don't seem to mention Unraid anywhere in your post. This forum is for helping people with Unraid. If you aren't interested in Unraid you have come to the wrong place.

I want to be able to see all my 16 differents hard drives in unraid mode (all seperately) on my computer, not in Raid mode... unless i don’t have the right definition of unraid?

What you are referring to is typically called JBOD (just a bunch of disks).

Unraid is a specific operating system for NAS (Network Attached Storage) devices. It is the purpose of this forum. It is possible to run Windows as a Virtual Machine on the Unraid OS, but this doesn't sound like what you are interested in.

That's an expander, you still need to feed it with an HBA
