Preclear before shucking?

Not even sure if its possible to preclear a USB drive, although I don't see why not.  Aside from heat, are there any issues?  I figure its probably best practice to test a drive a bit before violating the warranty.  What's the standard procedure here?

It is possible to preclear USB drives without issue.

I'm preclearing at 38MB/s on USB2.0, 33% pre-read done in 19 hours 26 minutes.....

 

I'll let you guys know next month how it went.

Nobody said it was fast, just that it worked. Be sure to keep the drive well ventilated.

 

Personally I shuck and preclear, but then again, I generally can shuck without damaging the enclosure or leaving any signs of entry. Use soft pry tools, not metal.

Don´t you have a possibility to use USB 3.0? I´m sure this will triple the speed.
