I am sure it is me - cant access my server - please help

Featured Replies

I purchased a new router (a Netgear WNDR3700)

I have the WNDR3700 hooked up to a switch which my computer and the Lime Server are hooked into

I can not access my Lime Server from my computer

I have run a ifconfig eth0 on my Lime Server and it comes up with:

inet addr:192.168.0.5

When I log into my router manager from the computer (routerlogin.net) and i go to the device page i can see that IP Address 192.168.0.5 is attached:

IP Address:192.168.0.5

MAC Address: 00:30:48:B0:AC:AB

Device: <unknown>

However on my computer i have tried the following things to connect to the Lime Server and nothing seems to work:

1) Restart modem

2) Restart Computer

3) Reboot Lime Server

4) Restart switch

5) Typed  http://192.168.1.3:8080

6) Typed http://192.168.0.5

7) Typed http://Tower

6) Tried pinging 192.168.0.5 from the CMD and it timed out

7) Adjusted my Host File to 192.168.0.5 Tower

Any help is greatly appreciated as I have been at this for a day now

THanks

Lewis

After another day of working, still no progress :(

I have a computer with windows XP and a computer with Windows 7 neither seem to connect

I have tried everthing i can think of other than messing with the flash disk - i am nervious to do so becuase my system has been bullet proof up till now

The one thing that has caught my eye is that all the other IP Address on my router start with 192.168.1._ vs. the Lime Server, which is 192.168.0.5 (i.e. there is a 0 in the third block vs. a 1, perhaps this is the problem?

I will be happy to buy a beer if anyone has a solution - please help

Thank you

You need to set the unRAID server to the same subgroup as the others on your LAN and then fix the host file to point to it.

It could then become 192.168.1.5

Joe,

Thank you - just to make sure i am doing this right - the only post i could find on changing the IP address was a post of yours in March 2008 with the following directions:

"The network.cfg is in the config folder of the flash.  If you don't see one there, you can easily create it with an adapted version of the following.  Just cut and paste the 5 lines to /config/network.cfg, and change the IP address and gateway to whatever is appropriate.  Or change USE_DHCP to yes, perhaps temporarily to see the assigned values from the router.

# Generated network settings

USE_DHCP=no

IPADDR=192.168.0.100

NETMASK=255.255.255.0

GATEWAY=192.168.0.1"

SO to be clear - i need to shut down the Lime Server and edit the config folder on the flash drive as listed above - there is no way to do on the Lime Server itself??

Thanks again for your help and paitence

Best,

Lewis

Yes, you can edit it on the server itself.

Type

mc

it will invoke midnight-commander

browse to

/boot/config

the file will be there to edit.

Edit it, then reboot.
