February 16, 20197 yr Hi, sorry but I have not a lot of expierence with the unraid server system, I hope my question is not that stupid. 7 years ago a friend of mine built me an unraid server with the following configuration: Mainboard: Supermicro X7SPA-HF-O Power: Antec High Current Gamer HCG-400 RAM: G.Skill SQ Series-Memory 2GB (DDR2) Tower: Zalmann MS100-HS2 - Midi Tower Adaptec RAID 1430SA RoHS The System ran perfectly the last 7 years. Actually I have 3 x 3tb and 5 x 2tb drives running. Since I ran out of memory very often I decided to upgrade to 2 x 8tb seagate barracuda drives (1 for new parity). I upgraded the parity and the other drives already in the past and never had a problem with that. I unassigned the parity drive and switched the existing parity drive (3tb) with the new seagate 8tb drive, but when I tried to assign the new 8tb drive it doesn`t show up in the array device list. As I said at the beginning I`m not very expierinced with the unraid server system. My question is, might it be possible that the Supermicro mainboard does not support 8tb drives? If that is the problem, could some of you please give me an advice which mainboard I should buy? I use the server (nas) only 3-4 times a week for 3-4 hours, so I don´t need components for a 24/7 unraid system. Thank you in advance for your help!
February 17, 20197 yr If the board doesn't support 8TB it should still be detected as 2.2TB, make sure it's not one of those disks that doesn't startup if there 3.3v, google "sata 3.3v power disable", if it's not that post the diagnostics.
