February 16, 20197 yr I found this quad nic, Hpe HP Ethernet 1Gb 4P 331FLR Adpt, cheep in my country (around 20$). It's not Intel but Broadcom chipset. Am new to networking and wondering if this is any good and worth buying? I'm trying to build a pfsens vm and following this video series from Spaceinvader One: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-40dgA5TFc Specs: https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c03225667
February 23, 20197 yr If your intent is to pass all ports to the same docker/vm you will be fine. If you want to separate the ports that card is not so nice. Overall throughput will not be 1gb per port and will Max around 700mb to 750mb per port. If that is acceptable then you will be fine. The Intel cards are worth the price difference.
February 24, 20197 yr Author Okej thank you for the answer. It sounds like it will work for me, at least for testing this setup. May upgrade in the future.
