emmcee
I have a WD Red 8tb, which was shucked from a MyBook. It has 76 days left on the warranty and yesterday morning I got a notificaiton of Current pending sector = 24. After doing some research, it seems that this could be a warning of pending failure. I did an extended SMART test and it completed without failure last night. I have a spare WD 8TB white label that I could swap in, so I'm considering RMAing the drive, but I guess it's a lottery then as I will likely get a refurb drive back again. My thinking is to swap it, then do multiple preclears on the replacement to shake out any issues, but I guess I want to know how much of a concern Current pending sector count is. JorgeB
1 pending sector is 1 too many, though if the extended test completed without failing the current pending sectors are "false positives", if you post the SMART report it might give a better idea of the overall drive health. Quote Link to comment

JorgeB
All other attributes look fine, I would keep it for now, but keep an eye on it. Also, if you want to clear the pending sector count a full surface write usually does it, either using preclear or rebuilding the disk. 1 Quote Link to comment
emmcee
Yeah, I think I’ll swap in the spare and do some preclude runs on the drive and see what happens. I have a couple of months of warranty left anyway. Quote Link to comment
