March 5, 20197 yr I'm configuring Unraid for the first time, so I'm not sure how things are suppose to work. There are several things that doesn't appear to work that is hampering the setup process. (1.) I can't enable system notification (2.) Flash Backup appears to not work - the screen clear and nothing happens. (3.) Completed Parity-Sync saying "Parity is valid" but when I power down the array and restarted, I got "parity is invalid" and Parity-Sync / Data-Rebuild in progress. (4.) Tried to add a plug-in and couldn't get the Apps disclaimer box to clear. I think some of these problems depended on status and data being saved to the flash drive, correct me if I'm wrong. After searching for related topics here, I believe there are a couple of changes I need to make. I need to use a USB 2.0 flash drive and a USB 2.0 port. The current configuration is a 3.0 flash drive in a 3.0 port. I'm ordering a header cable for the USB 2.0 port, but I haven't found what I need to do to move boot and registration data to another drive. Since I am in the trial period , I am thinking about trying to register another trial key and start over. I have attached the tower-diagnostics. Any comments or help will be appreciated - many thanks in advance. tower-diagnostics-20190304-1647.zip

Your symptoms suggest a problem with flash, and the syslog confirms. You might just try the USB3 drive in a USB2 port and if that doesn't fix it then you could see about a different drive.
March 5, 20197 yr Author Question: In the process of resolving this issue, is it advisable to replace the parity disk (10 TB) and the only disk, Disk 1 (8 TB), with a couple of smaller drives (1 TB and 500 GB) so that it doesn't take the system so long to return after a reboot if a Parity-sync is required? For anyone's information, I have never reached the point of being able to store data with the system. Thanks, mbush

If you don't have any data to lose then there is nothing wrong with just canceling the parity check you get from an unclean shutdown. You should of course get to a point where it says you have valid parity after you have data, and you should always have another copy of anything important and irreplaceable whether or not you have parity. Once you get the flash problems fixed, you won't get an automatic parity check after rebooting.
March 5, 20197 yr Author Last question until I make some changes, should I be able to do a "Flash Backup" immediately after starting the array if the flash problem is fixed? Thanks, mbush

Thanks, mbush You can make a flash backup without starting the array. There is an advantage to doing it this way in fact. If you use a flash backup taken with the array stopped, Unraid will think the array WAS stopped the last time it was shutdown, so you WILL NOT get a parity check for unclean shutdown. If you use a flash backup taken with the array started, Unraid will think the array WAS NOT stopped the last time it was shutdown, so you WILL get a parity check for unclean shutdown. (you could just cancel the check) On the other hand, if you make any changes to disk assignments, such as adding a disk, they aren't recorded until the array is started, so if you took a backup in that situation it wouldn't have the new assignments.
