March 7, 20197 yr Greetings Chaps. I have two unraid servers "s1" (plus license) and "s2" (std) (yes, very imaginative I know). s1 is quite old, made up of old bits leftover workstations G41MT-S2PT/8gig-ddr3/sata-3gbps, with some new disks. s2 is much newer with H110M-PRO/16g-ddr4/sata-6gbps Both have added (pci/pcie) Sata controllers for the extra disks. Both are used as a file server, but also emby server in docker. Reliability is 100%, they're great, love them both to bits. However, both servers seem to exhibit performance issues, specifically with Emby clients. Even without interruptions, it can be pretty slow to load, and sometimes not show images... There are definite pauses even with just one Emby client (smart TV) when the server gets a new job like doing pretty much anything else disk related (eg large file copy). Attached is a stats shot of s2 doing a file copy, at around a 180Mbps, which is a typical interruptive activity, when Emby is only sending at 20-40Mbps (1080p), showing the CPU is doing nothing, while the disk-i/o is directly related to the LAN. I started thinking about refreshing the s1 hardware, and looked at 6-12 sata port motherboards, as they should not be a bottleneck, but I stopped myself & thought I'd ask here for maybe some pointers to take a look at first, as the much faster s2 shows the same symptoms as the old slow s1. Please can someone point me where to start to find my bottleneck? Or is Emby always this sensitive & should be on a different server? Many thanks in advance, your comments are going to be much appreciated!
