March 8, 20197 yr My unRAID server normally updates docker images at 6:00am. This morning however, the system became unstable just after autoupdate finished. I can't shutdown from the GIU because parts of it are missing. I tried running diagnostics but that doesn't work either. All the docker containers web frontends are inaccessible but I can see that the containers are running. I can ssh into the box just fine and was able to get the syslog. I tried to shutdown but it just hangs. root@unraid:/# poweroff Broadcast message from root@unraid (pts/0) (Fri Mar 8 10:11:07 2019): The system is going down for system halt NOW! It's been like that for about an hour. There are definitely bad things happening at the end of the syslog right at 6:01 if someone wouldn't mind taking a look. Also, is there some other way to do a clean shutdown from the console? syslog-tail.txt
March 8, 20197 yr It seems to go wrong around here: Mar 8 06:01:22 unraid kernel: BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at 0000000000003d67 Mar 8 06:01:22 unraid kernel: PGD 800000011074b067 P4D 800000011074b067 PUD 1700c0067 PMD 0 Mar 8 06:01:22 unraid kernel: Oops: 0000 [#1] SMP PTI Mar 8 06:01:22 unraid kernel: CPU: 1 PID: 15873 Comm: java Not tainted 4.18.20-unRAID #1 Mar 8 06:01:22 unraid kernel: Hardware name: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. To be filled by O.E.M./Z77X-UD5H, BIOS F14 08/22/2012 As indicated in the first line, it could well be a real bug. You could try a different Unraid version, which will have a different kernel. It's worth checking for a newer BIOS - there are several that are newer than yours but they are all beta releases. The latest is F16j and it's been available for more than a year and hasn't been pulled so it's probably ok. https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/GA-Z77X-UD5H-rev-10#support-dl You've already tried the most powerful shutdown command from the console. You could try pressing and releasing the power button but I fear you're most probably going to have to hold the button in until it shuts down forcibly.
March 8, 20197 yr Author It came back ok after a hard reset, wait and see what happens. Thanks for reminding me about the BIOS. Edited March 8, 20197 yr by ksd2kd
