I think this might be a bug. I added two new hard drives to my AOC-SASLP-MV8 card and didn't change the spinup group on either. For whatever reason, drive 14 chose host 2, which is also the host name of a drive on the motherboard controller that never spins down. Whenever unraid it tries to spin drive 14 down, it throws some serious errors. I've changed the host name on drive 14 and the errors appear to have stopped.

So changing the spindown host name and rebooting still didn't fix the problem. Something is wrong. Updated syslog attached. Any ideas?
