March 11, 20197 yr Happy Monday all you beautiful experts, So I am switching out all my 2TBs with 6TBs. Parity first. No issues. Then a data drive, no device. I restarted a few times the same. Got frustrated, put the old one back in no problems, then couple days later did it again and voila it worked fine, no issues rebuilding or anything. Now, 2x Seagate Enterprise 6TB 7200rpm drives. I set the 2TB to no device, shut down, I shouldn't have to cause I have hot swap bays, but I did anyway as that worked in the past, why tempt the Data Gods.. Ritual.. So... No luck on either drive showing up. So what are my troubleshooting steps? It is not a SATA cable seating/card issue (I don't think), cause the old drive goes back in perfectly..
March 11, 20197 yr Community Expert Check if the new drive is detected by the bios is possible, if yes and not detected by Unraid post the diags, if not detected in the bios it also won't be detected by Unraid.
March 11, 20197 yr Author Ugh, OK No monitor or KB hooked up to unraid server an ordeal I'll have to defer, but yes seems logical next step! Any other ideas in the meantime?
March 11, 20197 yr Community Expert Post the diags, but if the disks aren't being detected by Linux it won't help much, the first step, would be to connect a monitor and keyboard.
March 11, 20197 yr Since you have a hot-swappable bays their back-planes may be old and not compatible with the latest hard drives. Search the web for SATA 3.3V pin or 3.3V hard drive mod to see if this applies to you Good luck Edited March 11, 20197 yr by bcbgboy13
March 12, 20197 yr Author @bcbgboy13, I think you're right on there, these are both white label drives. The drives did NOT show in the bios, and therefore not in Unraid. ordered the Kapton tape, will see tomorrow, I will update this thread if it is the solution. Thank you both for your input!
March 13, 20197 yr Author ok all it was the 3.3v Pin issue. I installed Kapton tape on the 3rd pin, And there it is! reuilding data on that drive now.

Doesn't make much sense with the original description of the problem: On 3/11/2019 at 2:58 PM, ruthlessone said: Then a data drive, no device.
