pyrater
So i noticed plex buffering alot and logged into the server. The dashboard is showing 99-100% usage on the CPU but HTOP is not showing barely any...... Not sure what is going on here???? 1 Quote Link to comment
sharpfork
I asked almost the exact question yesterday but was using top instead of htop. The response on /r/unraid was "Top does not include IOWAIT while dashboard does. You can always Install netdata where you can see this type of data." I personally think the CPU data in the dashboard is misleading but I'm a total noob so I might just be dumb. Quote Link to comment
Forusim
After reading this explanation of IOWAIT I also think, that the dashboard cpu load is very misleading. @bonienl Could you please have a look into this? Quote Link to comment
Delarius
I agree it is somewhat misleading but the dashboard cpu meter in my view is intended to show if there's a problem. If you do have very high i/o wait then that's almost certainly an issue, and thus it's displayed - to warn you. It might be nice to have a toggle so you could see the actual cpu load, but this can also be done through the system stats plugin. Or just using top. Just my two cents, Del Quote Link to comment
toastman
The problem is that I/O wait is CPU usage. While the CPU is waiting on I/O it can't do anything else. So when its showing 100%, even though its not doing anything productive, you can't do anything else with it. Quote Link to comment
testdasi
Can't please everyone. I bet my beer that if you remove IOWAIT, the forum will be flooded with "why is my server laggy, CPU shows 20% usage". 1 Quote Link to comment
Forusim
Guys, have you read the article? IOWAIT is the same as IDLE. It just indicates, that it is idling because of HDD. If you start some heavy transconding, it will grab all the IOWAIT cpu time. If users suspects any system slow down, they would look into netdata dashboard anyway. Quote Link to comment
