October 8, 201015 yr Bought one of these from fleebay. 13 x 5.25 slots. 8 centronics ports on the back and a 400W PSU. Going to use it as a 12 bay external case for my server. 4 x TC akasa 8cm fans should keep everything cool. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Edge10-EdgeDupe-13-bay-Duplicator-N5DX-with-Controller_W0QQitemZ120628313604QQcategoryZ86758QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp3286.m7QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D3%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D5126876859863863705 Selling the duplicator controller it comes with, no use for it 1-11 model.
October 20, 201015 yr Author Spent an evening fighting this external bay. Put twelve removable bays in place (3x4 SAS channels). Case can handle more, all I need at least for now. ;-) So consolidate my two existing external cases, migrate further four previously internal drives into the new beast. Add another Highpoint 8 port PCI-X card to the server. Fire up each four drive set one at a time, starting at the bottom four. First set fine, next set fine, third set. Issues. Weird thing is this set was simply swapped from one external case to the beast (same as set #1). Swap some drives around. Issues. Disconnect all drives and just use the last set. Still issues. Swap some bays. Still issues. Swap the drives back out into the original case. Still issues. Swap cables. Still issues. Confused now as to what the issue is. Back to square one. All the problem drives are hooked up to the motherboard, in addition to the two remaining drives in the unraid servers case (parity and cache). The two internal drives behave flawlessly as done one of the external set of drives. Swap the external cable for a new shorter one. Still having issues. Remove the SAS adapter, cable, drive and use a spare external host SAS adapter and wire up one of the problem drives on the bench. Works. Add another problem drive. Works. Swap back long cable... Still works. Swap out SAS adapter for the original Still works. Use external PSU. Still works. Add a hot swap bay. Still works. Put it altogether in the external bay, doesn't recognize the drive. Swear/curse a lot.........throw things across the room. Have a beer. Getting late now, so swap the four ports from the m/b to one of the Highpoint cards. All work. Power up unraid and start a parity check, post on the forum and goto bed. Hoping somone has any kind of explanation.
