(SOLVED) Slow Parity Sync - First Time Build

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

I've started my first Unraid build on a Supermicro 825-7 server.  I'm doing the first-time parity sync and I can't seem to get it past 11MB/s.

I'm convinced my issue lies with the RAID controller, a 3ware 9750.  I've read on the wiki that there can be some issues with the 3ware controllers, but not sure if I have any options to fix it, short of buying a new controller.

I've enabled turbo write in disk settings, but that doesn't seem to change anything.  I've also forced the SXB1 Configuration in PCI/PnP Configuration to 2x8 in the BIOS.  The drives have also been forced to link at 6Gbps in the RAID BIOS.

The drives are configured in the RAID controller as single drives.  I've thought about going back and setting them to unconfigured, and then enabling JBOD pass through (Unraid can't see the drives otherwise).  I was avoiding this option because I didn't want to risk losing the data I've already put on the drives, but at this point, I'm leaning towards that.

My other thought was to update the firmware of the RAID controller, but I'm not sure that would help given the 3ware compatibility issues I read in the wiki.

I've attached my diagnostics zip as well as the hardware config in a text.  Thoughts?

Thanks everyone!!

***UPDATE***

Hi everyone - small update.  In the end, I just ordered a new RAID controller from ebay.  Apparently this card does not support JBOD at all.  Despite setting the disks to unconfigured, JBOD was always N/A.  Basically this controller didn't support ZFS.  There was also no way, as far as I could tell to update the firmware to the LSI IT firmware.  I don't have exact details, but I believe the chipset would not support it.

Thanks to both of you who commented!
