b1ue
Hi everyone, On Unraid 6.6.7, 2 data drives WD 8TB, no parity drive setup for right now So I recently decided to migrate from Windows Server to Unraid. I did the initial transfer of my windows data using Krusader to two WD 8TB Easystores (hooked up to unraid thru USB). The transfer worked fine, but then I decided to move the drives into an enclosure so I shucked the drives and tried restarting the array with two drives. Just FYI, when I shucked them, the serial numbers changed. I tried selecting the drives and it said "Wrong drive", guessing because of the serial number. After some reading I found I could try creating a New Config. I did this, then tried initializing the array with the two drives, the array initialized but I got "Unmountable: Unsupported partition format". After some more reading I found I could try mounting the drives using the Unassigned Devices plugin to see if the drives would mount. Did this and the drives mounted fine, I checked out the filesystem structure of the data and everything seems to be intact. I am stuck on trying to reinitialize these drives into the array. Any suggestions on how to rescue these drives back into the array without having to reformat the drives? Thanks for any help :) Blue Quote Link to comment
cheezdog
I don't believe unraid will mount NTFS formatted drives for array use. I think you are going to have to format them to XFS in order to use the drives in the array. Quote Link to comment
b1ue
The drives are not NTFS. I had a separate set of drives that are ntfs and I had previously formatted the new external drives as XFS and added them to the array. I then transferred from the NTFS drives on the windows server to the XFS drives on the unraid server. Then I shucked the XFS drives and tried to add them back to unraid, that is when I encountered the issue Quote Link to comment
JorgeB
That's not uncommon after removing drives from enclosures, the USB controller sometimes doesn't pass the full size of the drive, and in that case Unraid will complain of an invalid partition, you'll need to reformatted them, you can mount them with UD and move the data to another drive already formatted by Unraid.
