March 29, 20197 yr I've been thinking about adding a 2TB hard drive to the array and leave it unassigned. My array have 3x 8TB data and 1x 8TB for parity. Plus a 240gb ssd for cache that I'll add this weekend. I plan to use SabNZBD for downloading content with Sonarr. The thing is sometimes I download tv shows/movies that I don't intend to keep in the array. So I have a few questions about this setup: 1. In what format should I format this drive? Should I format the 2 TB as xfs to be used? 2. Can I create a share within an unassigned drive and share it over smb? 3. What is the best option with this setup and usenet? Download to cache, have incomplete folder in cache and parity check and decompress into tgr cache and move it to assigned drive later? Or incomplete in cache and decompress it into the unassigned drive? Is there any caveat on this setup? Any recommendation I should be aware of?
March 29, 20197 yr Community Expert 1). The format is up to you. The Unassigned Devices plugin can handle all common formats. If you want to be able to easily read the drive on a Windows system go with NTFS, but otherwise XFS is a good choice. 2). You can share the whole drive as a single share. You cannot have folders on the drive as their own shares, and the drive will not be part of your User Shares. For your intended use this should be fine.
January 25, 20206 yr Hi which solution did you end up with on 3? I'm considering what the beft approach is with Sab and DL folder. Should all DL take place on cache SSD or use a normal HDD?
