background, I found out about xbmc, tried to use my old desktop tower but it was lacking big time so i ended buying a zotac mobo got a 1Tb drive and filled it with a quickness. then I found out about unRaid, bought a new hardware  precleared my drives and thats where i am at now.

right now I have a WD 10eARs full and  two  250 gig drives full, my movies , tv shows, and music is spread out across all 3 drives in one big hot mess. I am starting off with the free license with the following 3 drive.s  two wd 20ears and one wd 10ears. this is going to be used for my HTPC running xbmc.

1 do I set up shares, if so what are all the options (i've searched my heart out and im still confused)

2.i plan on adding more drives as I run out of room  I can have 5 data and  1 parity with out adding a card. so that should last me a while.

I am looking for example of  how people are using unRaid as a media sever for xbmc.

I created top level directories for my DVD, TV Shows, Anime, Music, and Photos.  I turned on UserShares and set them to read only for anonymous people (I am running 5.0b2; WHICH I DO NOT SUGGEST FOR A NEW USER).  On 4.5.6 you can set up your UserShares as read-only for a certain login and then use that to watch content from XBMC (it is what i do).  Then you can have a login where you can read/write your user shares (or you can go directly to writing to disk shares).  I use UserShares to write to my server but I also control where my content goes based on the includes and exclude disk settings.

From within XBMC I can add the UserShares as a source in read-only mode.  That way I cannot accidentally delete anything.

ok from reading this thread http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=8187.msg79381#msg79381  and this http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=7547.0

I am doing the following

disk shares set to read/write-hidden

diskX/Children

diskX/Movies

diskX/Music

diskX/TvShows

and I'll set up the user shares as "export-read only"

I will add my user share to my xbmc library and let guests access from with in my Lan.

ok thats all set up...

now when I go to setup and install Sabnzbd  should I have it download to my disk share of say /diskX/Downloads  or should I make a user share for my downloads?

as far as

Allocation method:

Min. free space:

Split level:

I am fair game I guess its going to depend on how I choose to download my content onto the unRaid. I am open to suggestions as to how I should set up for SABnzbd downloading

For applications like SAB/rtorrnet/tranmission i always prefer to access/save to the disk shares and NOT the UserShare.
