DelSol
Hello, I don't use parity because I run backups every night to my other server and I like the speed-advantages of having no parity. I have 3x5TB and 1x3TB drives and I would like to replace the 3TB with a 5TB. How can I do this? I'm using the LUKS encryption, can I add the new drive as 5th drive, encrypt it, copy everything and then replace the 3tb with it in the array setup? Quote Link to comment
JonathanM
Sure. When you are ready to remove a drive you will need to set a new config in tools. Quote Link to comment
DelSol
Thank you jonathan, so I will not loose my data/file structure/shares or anything when I delete my array config? what about file permissions on the new drive, do I have to note something here? Quote Link to comment

A new config is used to tell unraid that you wish to set up a new parity set based on the drives you assign. Since you don't use parity, nothing will be written. The reason you have to set a new config with unraid is because parity is dependent on keeping a specific set of drives consistent. You can't remove drives without rebuilding parity, so new config allows drive removal. Think of it as "New Parity Config". 12 minutes ago, DelSol said: what about file permissions on the new drive, do I have to note something here? The method you use to copy the files will determine their permissions. Quote Link to comment
