avp2306
Just curious, why does parity take so long to calculate for an empty drive? In a new build, added 2 identical drives, one as parity other as single disk array, both are freshly formatted new drives. Just trying to understand how things work. Quote Link to comment
trurl
Parity doesn't know anything at all about filesystems and files. Each disk is just a bunch of bits, and the parity disk is just a bunch of bits. Parity has to be calculated for all bits of all disks and written to all bits of parity. Quote Link to comment
