Windows VM disk spindown

Hi all, I have a windows VM which I've mapped a disk directly to a share that is written straight to disk not via the cache (because it has a huge amount of content that I don't need fast read/write on). In windows I've set the power settings to spin down disks after 20 minutes of activity. However the particular disk in the array that hosts the vdisk never spins down. Is there a way you can get KVM to sort of release the file lock or something to enable Unraid to spin the disk down?
