Eventually there is somewhere more documentation out there what you have to do to get it in the server list, yesterday I looked at the Steam Community Forums and they statet that the Private Dedicated Server aren't work yet, but after 2 hours they said that they now work...

I think this can be Early Access problems... :)

As long as you have those 3 UDP ports forwarded it does work through the in-game browser.

The in-game browser just takes a long time to search by name. Could be early access/growing pains.

I have it logged in anonymously in case you are not going that route.

Hi there,

Hopefully you can help me out with this one, ive looked everywhere but struggling. the error is below.

I got the forest docker, made sure the IDs were correct from the pervious messages, added my token into the docker config.

the server downloaded no problems, however, when I restarted this was the following error:

---Start Server---
There should be 'TheForestDedicatedServer_Data'
folder next to the executable

Ive checked in the appdata folder, and appdata\theforest\TheForestDedicatedServer_Data exists and is populated with all the files, im confused as to why it doesnt recognise the folder in the same location as the exe. any ideas? thanks.

Which ID's do you mean exactly? Have you changed anything in the tamplate?

Only this line?

Can you please give me the full log output since I'm not understanding whats the problem...

Regarding the template, Nothing was changed. the game ID is the same as what was on the template.

the logs are below. the --Start Server-- isnt the issue, its the line after it:

There should be 'TheForestDedicatedServer_Data'
folder next to the executable

you can see it at the bottom of the log. thanks for the help

I can not reproduce this error, I also attached the log of a TheForest container installed from scratch: theforest.log

I can brows the server in the Steam Server browser and it's successfully started.

Have you installed a Cache drive in your server if so, is the folder where TheForest is located set to use Cache 'Only' or 'Prefer'?

Please post a screenshot from the template itself.

Have you entered a Steam username and password, if so please remove it, the Steam credentials are only needed when they are marked as necessary with the red *. Forget that have seen from your log that you login anonymous.

EDIT: Try to start over, delete the container and also the directory 'theforest' that was created in your 'appdata' folder.

the cache settings are set to "prefer" could that be it? its moved the files off the cache and onto the main stoage.

If it's set to "Prefer" then it should not move it off of the Cache.

If it's really moved off of the Cache that's the problem, since I think some files are on the Cache and some files on the Array and so it basically can't find the files on the Cache drive even if it seems like if you browse the files that the files are on there but they are actually spread over multiple disks and that's what TheForest doesn't like.

I can try changing the settings from "Prefer" to "Only" see if that solves it.

If you do that you have to run the Mover so that it actually moves the files back on the Cache.

EDIT: And because I've saw it you don't have to put the TCP ports in the template, they are not necessary.

right, so I left it on "prefer" and checked all the files. They were all in the correct location on the cache drive.

I went ahead and deleted the docker, backed up my config and save files and deleted all files regarding the forest and steamCMD.

pulling it fresh from the community center seems to have worked. I modified the config file to double check and it all seems to be working again.

thanks for the help. its a really strange one. dont really know what caused it since I deleted the forest folder yesterday and redownloaded it from the community center, but I didnt delete the steamCMD folder. however, this time it worked.

The container for the game Valheim does not seem to be working for me. I've tried deleting the SteamCMD folder & game folder, didn't touch any of the config but the output seems to be the following:

After this, the container sends the kill signal and starts over, only for the same thing to happen again. Any ideas?

Please try once more to delete the whole container and the created directory for the game in your appdata folder.

Have you choose a password (if so the minimum length seems to be 5 characters).

EDIT: I can't reproduce this, here is the log from a fresh pulled container: valheim.log

Hi, yes I do have cache drive installed. The password was indeed the problem the first few tries, I didn't think of that. Thank you, it seems to be working now after a clean install.

I added a note to the template, will take a little bit to update.

huge log files

Updated the Container again everything should work now but set the validate option to 'true' first after the update since it's pulling a new version of Multiadmin that is necessary, or you could also Stop the container, then delete the file Multiadmin from the game directory, force an update of the container and than Start the container.

in the event that someone runs into this, Took me 2 hours to figure it out, hopefully this will save someone a little time.

Valheim server will bootloop without an error if your password is too short. (4 atleast, is too short)

Not sure if that's a common issue for the other steamserver passwords or not.

Any idea what could be causing the Valheim server to get hung up? It stays at the following below and never progresses. I've deleted everything and reinstalled, tried different passwords and every other suggestion in this thread but it seems no one has encountered my particular issue. I try to connect to the server locally and nothing. Same with my external ip. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Is this where the server log is supposed to stop? Haven't hosted many servers through SteamCMD.

If you're using the Steam server browser (recommended) I couldn't get this to work unless I used Port +1 to connect (2457)

edit: to clarify, leave the docker defaults, but in the Steam server browser, specify SERVERIP:2457

Thanks for the Valheim docker, @ich777

edit: pretty sure this is going to solve your problem @jvperez - I had to find this info elsewhere.

Like posted above is your password too short? Please read the templates very carefully for the containers, there are usefull informations in there at every variable.

Hey is there a easy way to change from survival to creative for my kids? Also how do I add myself as a admin. Im new to minecraft servers.

You have to change the file 'server.properties' that is located in the minecraft folder im your appdata dorectory.

You have to log into the console and op youraself with the command:

op YOURMINECRAFTNAME

(How to do that is in the description of the container)

Then I would recommen to chaneg the gamemode of your kids in game.

Hope that helps.

This was discusses one page erlier...

I also add a note about that in the Container description, @MadeOfCard told me that it takes really long to show up in the ingame server list.

Yes, I've changed the password multiple times and all have been above 5 characters. Not sure what else it could be.

Have you changed anyhting in the template? Can you attach a screenshot from the template?

I would recommend to start over and try it with the default template:

Delete the container

Delete the created directory for Valheim in the appdata folder

Redownload it from the CA App

EDIT: Have you installed a cache drive in your system and is the share on which the folder for Valheim is located set to use cache 'Only' or 'Preferred'?
