Kernel panics with 4 port Intel NIC

I rebooted and had a kernel panic after installing new memory (thread here).  After a lot of troubleshooting, I figured out that 2 reboots after I install my network card, I will get a kernel panic on boot and can never get past it -- until I remove the card.  It's pretty annoying to pull a card each time I reboot, so how can I go about troubleshooting this?  Are there drivers or options I can change to get around this?

    3. Adjust your preference.
